The Ville di delizia by Marc’Antonio Dal Re
2 May 2018Knights, ladies and the charm of a timeless beauty for your wedding.
Set in an immense natural park of 24 hectares, Villa Trivulzio of Omate is one of the most important architectural gems of Brianza. Built in the first half of the eighteenth century at the behest of Prince Antonio Teodoro Trivulzio, today the villa opens its exclusive rooms for weddings and elite events.
Protagonist of several elegiac works, celebrations and compilations, for many centuries the Trivulzio family was one of the most important families of Princes of Milan and Lombardia itself. There are numerous documents that testify the deeds and the great political and military successes that contributed to the remarkable fortune of this family.
The ascent of the family begins with Gian Giacomo Trivulzio who, in 1494, was elected governor of the arms of Abruzzo, thus becoming Viceroy of the region. These acknowledgements are followed by those earned by Gian Giacomo Teodoro Trivulzio who, at the service of Philip III of Spain, obtained the title of Prince, the treatment of Illustrious of Spain and the citizenship of the Empire. In 1620, following the death of his wife, the Prince devoted himself to church life, first as a cleric of the Apostolic Chamber and protonotary apostolic, and then as a cardinal. When he came back to Milan from Rome, he was also appointed governor general of the militia of the dukedom as well as superintendent of the fortresses and, subsequently, Viceroy and Capitan general of the kingdom of Aragon, thus receiving the rank of Grande di Spagna.
Gian Giacomo Trivulzio was followed by his great-grandson Antonio Tolomeo Trivulzio, who inherited the title of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, of the Mesolcina, and of imperial vassal for the fiefdoms of Retegno and Bettola. A regular visitor to the Milan and Viennese salons, literate and sophisticated, the latter promoted several projects such as the construction of the Pio Albergo Trivulzio in Via della Signora in Milan, a building intended for reception and assistance to the poor, and of Villa Trivulzio, the family’s crown jewel. The villa di delizia was designed in the early eighteenth century by a student of Cavalier Fontana, the architect Giovanni Ruggeri, and was then finished within a decade.
In addition to the Villa, which today is one of the most important noble villas of Brianza and Lombardia, we ought to the Trivulzio family also the Trivulzio Museum and the Trivulziana Library, which hosts numerous ancient and precious manuscripts such as those of Dante’s work.
From Carlo Trivulzio to Cristina Belgiojoso, undisputed protagonist of the Italian Risorgimento, the Trivulzio Princes, besides being important men and women of politics and of arms, have also been profound connoisseurs of literature, art and history.
The atmospheres that once hosted princes and princesses, knight and ladies, today can host your fairy-tale wedding.
